Job Description

Role:  Perform skilled engineering functions, including new service drops, customer premise equipment and related electronics, and outside plant (OSP) main cable extensions. 

Essential Job Functions:

· Complete engineering of all copper or fiber optic cable service drops,   customer premise equipment and related electronics in accordance with RUS, NESC, NEC and company standards.

· Meet with property owners to determine Outside Plant (OSP) facilities placement and identify existing private utilities.

· Demonstrate positive customer service etiquette, such as being timely with appointments and follow up documentation.

· Prepare required work order documentation, including face sheet, staking sheet, cable/count layout, cost estimate, rights-of-way and easement agreements.

· Inspect completed work for compliance with engineered documents, RUS, NESC, NEC, and company standards.

· Engineer dedicated or preferred cable count on service drops and mainline extensions.

· Assist in the implementation and updating of OSP records. 

· Engineer outside plant main cable extensions and cable cutovers.

· Engineer subdivision OSP facilities and estimates and administer Land Developer Agreements.

· Perform field verification of existing facilities as needed to maintain accurate records.

· Record and provide GPS data for locations of OSP facilities.

· Be the face of Silver Star Communications, championing the company as a key player in the development of the local community.

· Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

· A high school diploma and two years prior utility experience in mapping or drafting of utilities or utilities construction are required. A minimum of six months’ experience in the use of CAD, ArcGIS programs is required.

· Proven knowledge of basic electricity or utilities, ArcGIS, CAD, ESRI mapping programs, inside wiring technologies and procedures, fiber optic technologies, requirements and limitations   as applicable to drop services and customer premise equipment, easement document preparation, requirements and governing laws, and requirements for obtaining regulatory agency permits for right-of-way work.

· Basic understanding of telecommunications technology and networks with an understanding OSP communications design practice.

· Requires familiarity with RUS outside plant practices and standards.

· Within the department, actively participate in the team environment that will foster forward thinking, innovation, and creativity to meet the needs of the company now and in the future.

· Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact, and diplomacy.

· Proficient at Microsoft Office and various programs used by department and job specific.

· Proven analytical skills require continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

· Wyoming Notary Public preferred.

· Ability to hold a valid Wyoming or Idaho Driver’s License.
