The Senior Research Associate 3 conducts highly specialized and complex research in support of the division’s research goals and objectives and assumes responsibility for the successful operations of the laboratory. The incumbent also supervises the activities of all laboratory staff and users and serves as subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced staff. Core job functions include contributing to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, understanding and interpreting research protocols and procedures, maintaining an overview of relevant research findings, ensuring all research is undertaken according to good research practice, designing, evaluating, and implementing methods and protocols for assigned research projects, recommending purchase of new equipment for research projects, writing scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation, overseeing and ensuring the safe handling of radioactive and hazardous materials, preparing analytical reports relative to research data, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures. The position is within the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center's Cancer Modeling Shared Resource, focusing on advanced techniques and technologies to produce and manipulate customized genetically engineered rodents. Responsibilities include generation of genetically modified mice via microinjection and electroporation, cryopreservation and reanimation of mouse strains, molecular biology, mouse reproductive physiology methods, assisting the Director in running and implementing new services for transgenic, knock-out, knock-in, and gene-edited mice, developing and adapting state-of-the-art editing technologies, maintaining accurate records, analyzing research data, and maintaining cutting-edge technical knowledge. The role requires a Master’s Degree, minimum 5 years of relevant experience, excellent computer skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
